How to Wear a Vinyasa Wrap with Armholes.
If you’re a fan of Lululemon, you’ve probably heard of—or maybe even own!—their popular Vinyasa scarf. Featuring a row of button snaps, it can be twisted and folded to create anything from an infinity scarf to a cardigan. Lululemon recently updated the scarf by adding armholes, creating what they call the “Vinyasa wrap.” This versatile piece of clothing can be styled in a number of ways. Fold it in half and snap together 3 corners to create an asymmetrical cover-up. Or, slide your arms through the armholes and criss-cross the corners around your neck to make a trendy backless tank top.
Method 1 Creating an Asymmetrical Cover-Up.
1. Fold your Vinyasa wrap in half so the armholes are lined up. Hold the wrap up by two corners so the metal snaps are positioned at the top. The snaps should all be fastened at this point.
The Vinyasa wraps feature a long black stripe down the middle that lines up with the armholes. This stripe should be vertical at this point.
2. Open one metal snap at each corner. Use your fingers to pull apart one metal snap at each end of the wrap’s top edge. If you’re having trouble opening the snap, you can use your fingernails to help pry it open.
3. Put your right arm through both armholes. Slide your right arm through both of the armholes in your Vinyasa wrap. Bring the edge with the snaps up over your shoulder so it sits at the base of your neck.
Double check to make sure the loop featuring the Lululemon logo is on the back. This loop should be located on the bottom corner of your wrap.
4. Pull the loop around to your left and attach it to the top front corner. Using your left hand, reach back and grab the loop on the bottom corner of your folded wrap. Bring it around so it’s at about waist height. Then, grab the top corner of the wrap that’s hanging over your chest and snap the open button snap around the loop.
At this point, your wrap should resemble an off-the-shoulder shawl or tank top.
5. Bring the other corner over your left shoulder and attach it to the loop. Reach back and grab the top back corner of the wrap, which features the other open metal snap. Pull it over your left shoulder and down to the loop. Button the snap through the loop.
The loop should now be attached to both top corners of the wrap, creating a trendy, asymmetrical cover-up.
Make sure to wear the wrap over a tight-fitting shirt or tank top! When it’s styled this way, the Vinyasa wrap doesn’t provide enough coverage to be a shirt on its own.
The Vinyasa wrap is made of sweat-wicking, breathable fabric so it’s helpful for transitioning from the gym to dressier situations. It’s also great for travel.
Method 2 Making a Backless Tank Top.
1. Unsnap your wrap and position it so the loop is along the bottom. Open all the metal snaps on your Vinyasa wrap so it can be stretched out to its full size. Hold it at the top two corners so the loop with the Lululemon logo is along the bottom edge.
2. Slide your arms into the armholes so the snap closures are in front. Pull the armholes all the way up so they sit on your shoulders. The two lines of metal snaps should be hanging over your chest.
The wrap will drape open in the back to help create that backless look.
The loop should be in back, facing outwards.
3. Button the middle snap where the black lines meet across your chest. The Vinyasa wrap is designed with a thick black line running across it, which aligns with both of the armholes. At this point, both ends of this line should be positioned horizontally across your chest. Button the metal snaps at either end of the line together to start securing your wrap.
This will also make sure you’ve lined up the button snaps correctly so you won’t end up with an extra, empty snap after buttoning the rest.
4. Continue buttoning downwards from the black line. Once you’ve buttoned the snaps at the ends of the thick black line, work your way down the front of your torso as you continue to button the metal snaps. Make sure each snap is fully fastened before moving on to the next one.
5. Criss-cross the top corners of the wrap in front of your neck. There should be two flaps of fabric hanging over your shoulders at this point. Grab the corner of each one (which should feature a metal snap) and criss-cross them in front of your neck.
Your right hand should be holding the left corner and vice versa
6. Wrap the corners around the back of your neck and button the snap. Pull both corners around behind your neck. Then, button the snaps on the corners together to secure the fabric around your neck.
This creates a mock-turtleneck look that dresses up the rest of the outfit.
Since this style is backless, consider wearing a sports bra with criss-crossing straps (or other interesting visuals).
